At Capitol, we feel strongly about building happy, healthy and harmonious communities, which is why it is our vision for the business and has been for many years. So what better time of year to really embrace this vision, than at Christmas!
It’s a perfect time of year to really create that sense of community within your apartment building or complex. Do you know the people living in the levels above and below you or the neighbour in the townhouse across the street? A quick wave just doesn’t count either!
It seems that life just keeps getting busier, but why not make this Christmas the year that you spend the time and inject some Christmas spirit into your community and consider organising a get together on common property or create a social club for 2019. Spreading that Christmas cheer may really make the difference to someone in your community and how nice will it be to live in a happy, healthy and harmonious community.
On behalf of Capitol, we would like to thank you for all of your support throughout the year, it has been another exciting year for Capitol, with growth both in the business and our team. We wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
Ian D’Arcy, Josephine Falco & Ashley Wood
Ian D’Arcy is awarded Life membership to SCA (QLD)
“It always gives you a sense of pride when you are acknowledged by your peers for your efforts and your achievements. Being made a Life Member of Strata Community Association (Qld) is definitely one of the highlights of my working life.
Since establishing Capitol, Josephine Falco and I have always tried to give something back to the strata industry and also the wider community. Without the support of Josephine and the rest of the Capitol team I could not have devoted the time that I have to SCA (Qld). I am proud of my achievement and thankful to the Capitol team for their support”.
Congratulations to our Managing Director, Ian D’Arcy on being awarded Life Membership to Strata Community Association (Qld). Ian was also re-elected to the Board of SCA (Qld) at their AGM in November. Here’s what SCA had to say about Ian… “Ian D’Arcy, became Secretary in 2010. He’s been a member for 20 years this year, serving on the Board since November 2004. Ian has guided us through many AGM’s and thanks to his background as a solicitor has assisted the Board in understanding governance issues. Ian has been the chair of the Professional Standards Committee for the past few years and was elected to the National Board in 2017. Ian is one of the longest serving board members with 14 years’ service.”
New cladding laws implemented
Laws relating to combustible cladding have commenced in QLD New Legislation. The QLD State Government has brought into place laws to address buildings with non-confirming cladding. Capitol set up a dedicated team to guide affected bodies corporate through the entire process. This is currently underway.
Review of rental law
The Queensland Government put out for feedback from the community with a deadline being the end of November on how the states renting process could be improved. The QLD Government was hoping to receive feedback from tenants, rental property owners, property managers and the broader community to help make sure renting works for everyone.
Review of property law
The Commercial and Property Law Research Centre of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) completed a review of Queensland’s property laws for the Queensland Government earlier in 2018. The review examined issues arising under legislation governing ownership, use and dealings in real property in Queensland including the Property Law Act 1974 and the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 and other body corporate legislation.
It has been a busy year in the body corporate industry, with many changes and reviews taking place. Capitol look forward to working with you and helping to navigate your body corporate through these changes in 2019.
