Cristina D’Arcy Rides to Conquer Cancer
Cristina D’Arcy Rides to Conquer Cancer
On the weekend of the 20th of August 2011, Cristina D’Arcy, a previous employee of Capitol and daughter of Directors Ian & Josephine D’Arcy participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, a fundraising bike ride for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) to raise money for cancer research.
This is the first year the ride has been held in Brisbane, resulting in the largest fundraiser Queensland has ever held - raising $4.7 million by 1300 riders!
Cristina commented on her adventure:
“The Ride to Conquer Cancer was a 237km hilly ride held over two days from St. Lucia to Somerset Dam and back – the hardest physical feat I have ever undertaken. To participate, you had to raise a minimum of $2,500.00. Luckily from the support of friends, family and businesses including Capitol I was able to raise $3,500.00 for Skin Cancer research. Statistically everybody has been affected by cancer in one way or another – personally a close family friend and my grandfather have both lost the battle with cancer, so to support QIMR to assist in finding a cure and “conquering” cancer was really empowering for me. I encourage everybody to participate in the ride for 2012, as either a crew member or a rider. The ride was a fantastic experience, I got to meet some really motivated people, accomplish a goal and all whilst assisting in the fight for cancer.”
Well Done Cristina!
If any of our owners choose to participate in this worthy cause next year, please let us know here at Capitol and we will be more than happy to make a donation.
