Capitol - Celebrating 15 Years!

Most people know Josephine D’Arcy as the founder of Capitol Body Corporate. Josephine was born in Benevento, Campania, Italy. At the age of three, Josephine hopped on a boat with her mother and migrated to Australia where they were re-united with her father who had been cutting cane in North Queensland for two years and had set up the family base in Berry Street, Spring Hill.

Josephine went on to attend St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, Petrie Terrace State School and Kelvin Grove High School, whilst she assisted her mother in running Private Boarding Rooms. She also helped her father to run his building business, a great training ground for a potential Body Corporate Manager! She left school and went on to be a legal secretary for a number of law firms including MacGillivrays, however the lure of running her own business beckoned and she started Capitol in 1995.

Josephine considered the idea of a Body Corporate Management business when she was finding it difficult to hand over the paperwork for a family built building, Madryn View. The scheme remains on the Capitol books and since then Capitol has established three offices, in Brisbane, Redcliffe and the Gold Coast, and now manages over 600 schemes. The team has also grown to incorporate her husband, Ian D’Arcy in 1997, who brought along his legal and management experience.

When looking back on the 15 years since starting the business, Josephine comments “It has been an amazing journey, where I have learnt a lot about myself, other people and how to run a business. From one part time employee, we now have twenty four fantastic people working with us. They are dedicated, approachable and willing to assist.

I personally thank my loyal unit owners that have been with me since day one, and all those who have come along since the early days. I am proud to say that Capitol is still managing the first site that I started the business with and most of the sites that I managed in the first year of the business.

My philosophy is this: In communication all can be resolved. If there is anything that we can do to improve our service to you, please let us know and we will listen, and if appropriate we will act on it.

We like to give back to our owners by holding informative seminars and those owners who have attended find this really worthwhile. I really enjoy meeting you when you attend these seminars and encourage everyone to look out for the next seminars to be held in October 2011.
